What is a General Strike?

A strike is when people refuse to go to work in order to get their demands met at their job. A general strike is when all the people refuse to go to work in order to put power back into the hands of the people to change the system.

A general strike is peaceful and non-violent, but can shake the corporations, investors, and politicians to the core. A general strike gains strength from the unity and organization of the people. If one person goes on strike, they will be fired. If everyone goes on strike, there is nothing any business or government can do to stop them. We will also be boycotting and picketing any organization that disciplines any person for joining the general strike. We need everyone to go on strike. The more people, the more effective.

No work.

No school.

No shopping.

Oakland RepressionWe Are Tired of Repression!

We have faced violent police repression from Wall Street to Oakland. We have had enough. We will fight back through organization and unity instead of violence and brutality like the police and politicians who protect the bankers and investors. A general strike provides a peaceful way to resist the on going brutality. We show that our society remains in the hands of the people and not in the hands of the police, politicians, and bankers.

We Create the Real Wealth!

Factory WorkerWe create the food, clothing, and services on which the nation depends. Real wealth comes from us, working class people, not Wall Street. We work and slave away day after day to provide the basic necessities for ourselves and our families. Wall Street investors, bankers, and other financial elites gamble our future on the stockmarket daily. However, they can only continue to gamble on risky investments because of the wealth they take from us through fees, fraud, and bail outs. We will show them who really controls the economy. A general strike is a step to return control over the economy to the people who really create the wealth.

We Will Not Be Bought Off!

Stand UnitedCorporations offer lower prices on Black Friday because they depend on us buying their products. Large corporations use the holiday season to sell more products. Every year we hear about fights over toys, video games, and clothes. We will no longer let the corporations divide with the cheap trash they sell. We don't want "deals". We want real change. We will not work to sell the corporations garbage. We will not buy their corporate trash. Our general strike will make this clear!

We Stand in Solidarity with the Rest of the Country and the World!

Occupy RomeAll across thecountry and the world people have started standing up against oppression, corruption, and corporate greed. Every individual only represents a small part of the people rising up around the country and the world. We need to recognize that our strength comes from working together. We need to take decisive action to show our solidarity with all those fighting around the world. A coordinated national general strike shows solidarity with all those also striking across the country and across the globe.
